Before the club opened in 2017
Keith Farrell, our chief instructor, was quite active on the international tournament scene while still based in Glasgow. He was largely retired from mainstream tournaments by the time he moved to Liverpool and opened this club. However, he had managed to achieve some significant success before retiring, ranking in the top 100 fencers in the world at the time for each of four competitive disciplines (according to the information available through HEMA Ratings):
2016 – September – ranked 80 in the world for open steel longsword
(HEMA Ratings data accessed 06/06/24)
2016 – July – ranked 11 in the world for mixed synthetic longsword
(HEMA Ratings data accessed 22/08/23)
2015 – August – ranked 7 in the world for open singlestick
(HEMA Ratings data accessed 06/06/24)
2014 – November – ranked 44 in the world for open sword and buckler
(HEMA Ratings data accessed 06/06/24)
