Private tuition is available if you would like some additional practice in a one-to-one setting with the instructor, or potentially a small group setting with one or two friends. This is an ideal way to get some additional practice if your schedule is flexible, or to get some training at all if your schedule makes attending the normal group lessons difficult.
Private tuition is one of the best ways to improve your skills quickly. We can work on whatever you would like to focus on, or you can ask the instructor to diagnose a problem and offer a solution for you. Because the focus is on you for the duration of the session, you will manage a lot of repetitions, and the lessons will be designed to help you improve as a pace that you find comfortable.
Price of private tuition
You are welcome to arrange private tuition for yourself and a friend together, so that you can split the cost between you.
If you would like to arrange a private session for a larger group, there will be a small additional fee per additional person.
|Typical Hourly Rate|
|1-2 people||£40 per hour, plus hall hire|
|Larger group||£40 per hour, plus hall hire, plus £10 per additional person|
|Hall hire||Usually £10 per hour at the Lifestyles Ellergreen centre near Norris Green / Croxteth.|
The table above shows the typical hourly rate, which can be discounted for regular private students and for club members. If you have an up to date club membership, please contact the instructor to discuss your arrangements with the discount.
If we need to hire a hall to do the private tuition indoors, then the hall hire will need to be paid for in addition to the hourly rate for the instructor.
Venue, hall hire, and technology
Indoors: health and safety must be prioritised over price, and therefore hall hire for indoor training must be the default option, unless circumstances and weather allow for safe outdoor training. The preferred indoor venue for private tuition is the Lifestyles Ellergreen centre near Norris Green and Croxteth.
Outdoors: if you are happy to train outdoors, in the instructor’s garden, then this will not require anything to be paid towards hall hire. This arrangement may be suitable for some lessons, but not for everything (there is not really enough space for sparring), and weather is always a factor.
Online: another option, if travel might be difficult, would be to arrange some private tuition online over Zoom. We can convene in front of the webcams to have a helpful discussion or to go through some exercises together, whether just physical training or more sword-related exercises within the limits of the indoor space available to us.
