Finding the venue during current building works

27th November 2023 By Keith Farrell

UPDATE (04/01/2025): please note that this information is no longer correct as of the week commencing the 6th of January 2025. The building work has now finished and the only entry/exit will be the original gate on N Mossley Hill Rd. Please disregard the rest of this current article. The new map and instructions can be found in our updated announcement.

UPDATE (23/02/2024): please note that this information is no longer correct as of the week commencing the 19th of February. Since the reopening of Queens Drive and the removal of the “road closed” signs at the junction, accessing the venue is now easier. Please disregard the rest of this current article. The new map and instructions can be found in our updated announcement.

Since the venue is currently undergoing some building work, from the week commencing the 27th of November, for the foreseeable future the parking and entry situation will be different. It is unfortunately quite complicated.

Please observe the map of the campus shown above.

You can no longer get to the sports hall from the usual entrance on N Mossley Hill Rd due to the building works, shown by the solid mass of red on the map.

The usual entrance into the campus from N Mossley Hill Rd is still open, and there is parking available there (behind an electric barrier that is raised and lowered according to some schedule that has not been communicated to us, so park here very much at your own risk), shown by the area outlined in blue with a “P” on the map.

Parking is also available on the side of the street on N Mossley Hill Rd if you feel that that is safer and easier than trying to navigate all the nonsense with the crossroads and the parking spaces within the campus.

The brown lines show the new entrance to the campus from Queens Drive. Parking is available beside the playing fields and behind the sports hall in the two areas outlined in blue with a “P” on the map.

A significant portion of Queens Drive is closed for repairs (and is scheduled to be closed until November 2024), indicated by the long stretch of red on the map. Therefore, the only way to get to the Queens Drive entrance to the campus is from the crossroads, marked by the green lines.

Please note that, quite unhelpfully, there are cones and road signs saying “road closed” at the Queens Drive branch of that crossroads (marked with the red triangle at the crossroads on the map), making it impossible to use the left-hand lane. You have to drive around those cones, using the right-hand lane (towards oncoming traffic, but don’t worry too much about that, because the oncoming cars cannot drive all the way up to the cones – there is a “do not cross” line for them on the road that should leave enough space for you to get through on your approach), and then you can return to the left-hand lane after the cones, ready to turn in to the entrance and follow the brown lines on the map.

Please also note that this entrance is wide enough for one car, but is shared between cars entering, cars leaving, and all the pedestrians.

Pedestrians must use the same entrance as the cars, following the pink lines. If you parked inside the campus, you can follow the pink lines to walk to the sports hall.

The large yellow dot is where we typically stand and meet before the session begins, before the doors open and we go inside. The little yellow dot is the main entrance to the venue, if you want to go inside earlier for the bathroom or to use the changing facilities.

Apologies for the complexity. This is our best understanding of the situation as things stand for now.
