As of today, the club marks it 8 year anniversary. We opened our doors in July 2017 and haven’t looked back ever since! In fact, we have been adding to our legacy of spreading well-taught martial arts through Liverpool and the surrounding area.
In 2022, one of our instructors opened the Warrington HEMA club, a little to the east of Liverpool. That same year, another of our instructors moved to Wales and helped to teach the North Wales HEMA Academy. This year, in 2025, another of our instructors opened a the Wirral HEMA club just south of Liverpool, and I also opened a new karate club within the city. Since our last anniversary, some of our instructors have been starting to teach at national events and at other clubs.
That is all very exciting, but what about our club itself? Our fencers have been going from strength to strength, developing all sorts of skills and knowledge, and with two more of our members working on translations of historical source material. Our instructing team has been covering a number of sessions over the spring and summer for me so that I could have a bit of time for physical rest and recovery. This has been particularly helpful, and I’m feeling physically much better and more able to get back into the swing of things again.
Many people go through life without finding a group of people who can build them up and support them through difficult times, always giving them something to look forward to. I count myself very lucky that I have such a group of people around me at this club.
Later today we have our July Fechtschule. We will celebrate our anniversary by hitting each other with big sticks and then competing for bags of chocolate coins. What better way to mark another year of being open?
